Things Have Slowed Down!!!

Greetings from the cellar! Well harvest has come to an end and things are back to "normal". As nice as that sounds going from 12-15 hours a day (with more going on then best buy on black Friday) back to 8 hour days with nothing but busy work to do can be a little bit of a shock. The truth is I like the harvest season, it makes the rest of the year seem so effortless. We got all the topping done in no time, and any other maintenance on the previous vintage was a breeze. I also like the harvest season for the challenges it brings and the opportunities you get to try new things, for example our new equipment, ( see blog post "harvest" Sept. 13) or maybe a different yeast strain you wan to try. What ever it may be it all has to do with the constant pursuit to make your wines better than last vintage. You can't undo what you did last year but you can start fresh with the new vintage and the idea is that you get better and more efficient every year. This year there is alot to be excited about, the crop was a little light but what did come in is going to be steller. Erics farming and know-how in the cellar I think is going to pay off big time for the '08 vintage. This being my third harvest it's insane to think about the amount I have learned, but what is even more insane is to think about the amount I have left to learn in the years to come.
